Special Interest describes a consumer concept, where there exists a “special” relationship between a customer and their pastime, hobby, or pursuit. Our client is looking to develop a set of product proposition based on “special interest” communities. This is a brand-new endeavour which will require exciting and determined leadership.

The Product Manager will work with the Chief Information Officer to develop the community product strategy and then deliver products that fulfil that strategy, ensuring that they are supported to grow. The job holder will need to understand the target audience and commercial objectives, in order to communicate the product vision for the brands to the product and tech team and the rest of the business.
This is a critical role developing exciting, fast-moving and engaged communities where users are now expecting and demanding new and innovative digital and mobile solutions to meet their needs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying market opportunities, developing the right product strategy and working with a dedicated development team to deliver the roadmap. A key objective is to build greater engagement with our clients’ websites and apps to maintain their leading position vs the competition.

Accountabilities
Right Product/Right Time
• You will define and articulate the vision for the product and the product strategy and will be responsible for prioritising opportunities in conjunction with the CIO and Subject Matter MDs.
• You will ensure that the right level of effort is put against the right products at the right time. You will proactively explain compromises that need be made to both the team and all key stakeholders in order to deliver the product roadmap.
Product Strategy and Roadmap
• You will lead the definition and articulation of the communities product strategy, aligned to the brand strategies and commercial imperatives. You will secure the signoff of stakeholders and lead the delivery of the product roadmap. This will include daily and weekly prioritisation with the development team, and clear communication of these priorities to both other teams and to senior executives.
Lead the product & development teams
• The successful candidate will be an inspirational leader who can keep the development and design teams passionately engaged in the development of the product. Although the development and design teams do not report directly to this role, you will assume responsible for all aspects of the product development, user experience and product performance, and work closely with all members of the team to identify and resolve any issues that may occur.
Represents Product Internally
• This role will act as an evangelist for the team and for the community products. You will bring a passion for the product that inspires the team and the wider organisation, and will create a sense of excitement, momentum and enthusiasm for both the products that are being developed and the way you are doing it.
• You will seek out and take opportunities to share both to the team, the wider product team, the executives and the wider organisation. You will also seek out external opportunities to share the learning and successes of the team at conferences and external industry events.
Content, Sales and Marketing
• You will work closely with Brand Editorial, Sales and Marketing teams to ensure that all editorial, sales and marketing requirements are understood and incorporated into the roadmap as appropriate.
Identifying and Assessing Opportunities
• You will be responsible for seeking out and assessing opportunities to grow the business, through a variety of sources including user insight, feedback on current products, competitive analysis, industry trends and commercial product development.
Applying Technology
• You will work with both the development team to identify the right technology and infrastructure approach for the weddings business, and also with the wider Platform team to share learnings, and make the right decisions to support both Communities and the wider business.

Competencies (Core & Technical)
• Senior Product management and leadership experience at a comparable consumer media business or in another consumer facing digital or mobile environment.
• Experience of building community engagement products, showing evidence of leveraging social media and the power of network connections.
• Must be a Leader. This role involves setting up a team from scratch, developing a product vision and then growing a new capability
• Experience setting the Product vision, establishing product strategy and leading the product roadmap
• Experience in working with dedicated development teams, and driving Agile development processes
• Clear, structured thinker and communicator able to gain the trust and effectively inspire all levels across the organisation from CEO and Senior Executive to Brand colleagues and development and design team members.
• Experience at interpreting analytics to form hypotheses about user behaviour and translating this into specific product recommendations
• Will be able to demonstrate the ability to drive revenue optimisation from within the product through analysis of complex pricing and commercial models
• Has a deep knowledge, understanding and personal experience of the current on-line and mobile digital media marketplace.
• Has a collegiate and collaborative approach and a ‘go-getting’ attitude. Relates well to all kinds of people within and outside the company builds rapport easily.
• Has an ability to anticipate trends and develop strategies for competitive advantage within the Product and to translate broad strategies in to specific objectives and action plans.
