We are looking for an experienced Art Director to join our client creative studio to design day-to-day campaign work and lead a sub-team of designers.   The Art Director will be responsible for the creative execution of partnership and creative solutions work across a selection of brands within our clients portfolio, and will be expected to build strong working relationships with those brands’ art desks. They will be pivotal in ensuring that output is both innovative and a good fit editorially. This role is based in Hammersmith, West London.
As well as producing design work you will take a hands-on role in critiquing work – particularly work that appears in the brands. The two Art Directors, under the leadership of the Head of Design, play a pivotal role in shaping the team’s creative direction and output and inspiring others to push creative boundaries. You will lead some talented designers, supporting and developing them to be the very best they can be. You will work closely with the other Art Director and Head of Design to ensure that campaigns have a consistent look and feel across all brands’ platforms and be instrumental in the development of the design team as a whole.
You will be a hands-on Art Director, overseeing the output of a team of designers across print, digital and social, constructively critiquing their work in consultation with the Head of Design, stretching and developing designers in terms of creativity and understanding of campaign’s goals. You will lead by example and pass on your creative flair and understanding of our brands’ house style across all design output. A lot of your work will be hands-on design, producing work across all platforms to the highest standard, at all times.
You will also be expected to work closely with the Head of Design when it comes to shoots, ensuring that the photographic work produced is not only on brand but fresh in its approach. You’ll be expected to come to meetings armed with tears, screengrabs, sketches and plenty of great ideas.
You’ll be responsible for art directing photo shoots, producing pre-shoot collateral and liaising with freelancers. This includes conception, creating moodboards, managing freelances, sourcing costumes / props / locations, attending internal & external client meetings. Where video is included in the brief, you’ll be expected to work in collaboration with the video team. When on set, you will balance editorial guidelines with clients’ needs, and work closely with the photographer and video director (where necessary) to create outstanding content.
You will play a key and vocal role in brainstorms and ideation, both in response to client briefs and also pro-active pitch work. You will dream up brilliant new ideas, and live the ethos that creativity has no limits. Your focus will be on partnerships and you’ll combine exceptionally strong ideas with a focus on partnerships that really work and lead to ground-breaking, award-winning work.

Team & design

  • Directly manage a Senior Designer and Designer(s) in the London office. 
  • Oversee the Design team’s output for your brands, ensuring all work is of the highest standard, is as creative as possible and adheres to our brands’ guidelines. T
  • Ensure all design work fits brand guidelines, including external clients.
  • Coming up with loads of great ideas for shoots which demonstrate not only innovation but an understanding of brand values.
  • Bringing creative ideas to life in a shoot environment, working in collaboration with project managers, photographers, etc.
  • Receive, interrogate and fully understand partnership briefs across the whole ad business, both endemic and non-core.
  • Attend brainstorms, driving new idea generation across Imagine and the brand teams.
  • Constantly seek out and dream up new, exciting ideas that win pitches and drive results for our clients.
Pitching and new business
  • Work on pitch proposals with the relevant brand and sales teams, both reactive and pro-active.
  • Play a key part in improving pitch documents, sales collateral and developing new ways of presenting pitch work
  • Attend client and agency meetings, briefings and pitches where required
  • Play a key role in driving new revenue, working closely with the relevant sales team and leadership team
  • Experience of leading designers, with a supportive, developmental team culture.
  • Proven track record of successful mentoring of designers of all levels, across all disciplines.
  • An expert in all areas of digital and print commercial design.
  • Proven track record in commercial advertising design, with strong understanding of client and media agency needs and objectives.
  • Proven success in thinking up and delivering successful, large scale advertising partnerships.
  • Strong knowledge of Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign with the ability to produce stunning visuals.
  • A proven innovative approach, hungry to learn and keep up to date with industry developments.
  • Superb communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Experience of presenting confidently at senior level, both internally and externally at pitches.
  • Proven ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships and demonstrate that you value input and feedback and are willing to learn from others.
  • Ability to work in close collaboration with other creative departments.
  • Ability to come up with innovative, on-brand shoot treatments and to bring concepts to life in a shoot environment.
