NEW ROLE_ An ambitious Head of Design is needed for a rapidly growing company to drive their design standards to the next level.  Our client is a leader in specialist business information and intelligence and works across the financial sector.

The individual needs to have vision and necessary drive to develop and lead the design department, both creatively and commercially.  You need to have an eye for current design and understand how this can be successfully translated into successful campaigns and products both on and off line. With the vision to translate these designs into our clients live events portfolio as well. Experience of managing people is essential, and being prepared to be involved in the day to day whilst maintaining the ability to consider the bigger picture.

The Role
The Head of Design will be responsible for developing and managing all aspects of our clients design and creative output.  It’s a leadership role, with accountability for online and offline design output.  You will ensure design and creative deliverables are aligned to the business expectations and executed within budget and timescales.

It involves working with a range of internal clients from Technical teams, to membership and event marketing to event operations.  You will be required to develop brand creative concepts, and at other times, be responsible for recruiting and managing internal design resource and managing multi-disciplinary third party suppliers as necessary.
It will involve you using your best practice toolkit to implement new processes and practices to improve efficiency of the design and creative department.

Responsibilities
• Managing the design team and freelancers as required and helping develop people
• Lead concept development in relation to design and creative outputs
• Take a lead role in managing the design and creative elements of projects and be point of contact for creative projects.
• Develop creative programs and design concepts that meet the business objectives of the organisation and that advance the brand and proposition strategy
• Take ownership of print and digital brand guidelines and their ongoing evolution. Ensure all output adheres to these
• Commercial accountability through accurate scoping and quoting of work
• Develop and manage productivity and to continuously improve the design team’s production capabilities
• Ensuring that design and creative projects are delivered on time and to budget
• Provide quality control over design outputs and production
• Establishing and developing best practice with the design and creative team
• Working with other team members (Technical / Marketing) to deliver projects and activity to deadlines
• Point of contact for liaising with external suppliers as require

Skills and competencies
• Excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
• Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography & limitations of online and offline design work.
• The ability to translate ideas to designers and others, influencing external and internal stakeholders
• Attention to detail
• A strong working knowledge of online and offline design, brand development and the creative process
• Ability to lead design projects from concept to completion
• Ability to supervise and develop employees
• Experience with relevant software.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Experience of creating designs for email and mobile

Experience
• Previous experience in an agency or media owner environment is essential
• At least five years experience in a senior designer role including concept development and client contact
• Proven track record in creating excellent brand and design work from concept to production
