We are looking for a London-based News Reporter to cover hedge fund activity for our clients global data-led business information platform.
Our client is a leading provider of business intelligence, data, insights and events for the global asset management industry. They provide high-value, specialist business information and networking opportunities to niche target audiences in the alternative and traditional fund management industries and employ over 450 staff globally with our head office based in London.
You will be working on a data-led business intelligence platform for investor relations teams and C-suite executives at hedge funds, a focal point of our clients growing suite of business intelligence tools for the global fund management industry.

The Role
The role will give the reporter the opportunity to cover the dynamic world of high finance against the backdrop of an industry-wide shakeout that could have the biggest impact on the asset class since the global financial crisis.
We need someone hungry for news, who will come in hit the phones and get out to meetings to develop a network of sources, as well as apply data-driven analysis, to consistently uncover valuable information and actionable insights for our subscribers.
Working as part of our team of 70 global asset management journalists across the globe, you’ll be reporting on fund activity, providing subscribers with market intelligence on the development of new products and fund launches to significant capital raising, and key people moves. You’ll also track the ups and downs of fund performance, providing investor relations teams with intelligence on how their fund compares to peers, how different strategies and managers are performing and why.
Your reporting will be contextualised with fund performance and investor data from our proprietary database.

Applicants should have proven journalism experience, preferably with business or finance publications, although we are open to reporters who have built up a strong track record covering news across other industries or have shown outstanding initiative during internship/work placement roles.

The Responsibilities

  • Break daily market intelligence about hedge fund activity, investment decisions and performance, using source networks and data-driven analysis
  • Build relationships among the hedge fund community by working the phones, arranging in-person meetings, and attending industry events
  • Coordinating news coverage with data research teams around the globe
  • Stay on top of wider industry trends impacting the hedge fund sector
  • Travel occasionally to cover industry conferences and build contacts

The Requirements

  • Proven journalism experience, preferably with another business or finance publication
  • Strong communication, organisational and time management skills
  • A journalism degree and/or professional training preferable, but not essential
  • An interest in and some knowledge of the hedge fund industry would also be advantageous
