We are currently looking for a Business Development Executive to join our clients Government sales team in their London Headquarters. This is a great opportunity for someone wishing to further a career in a commercial, sales-driven role.

Our client is a world leader in strategic and tactical business research and analysis. A recognised innovator, consistently out-performing their peers –they now have 15 offices in 14 countries. Their reports, analysis and forecasts are considered essential reading by business leaders for their cutting-edge content, design and usability, whilst clients include the world’s major multinationals, banks, consultancies, libraries and business schools.

With offices in central London and flexible work hours, you will work with renowned governmental bodies and trade organizations across Western Europe and have the ppportunity to progress into senior sales roles or consulting. The successful candidate will demonstrate commercial awareness as well as a keen interest in, and knowledge of, consultative sales.

You will be responsible for targeting new organisations in the public sector across your territory. You will be a highly self-motivated sales professional with a proven track record for selling in the business-to-business arena, ideally, with a good knowledge of public sector buying processes. You will be working closely with trade government institutions to establish our client as the key provider for business information. You’ll have the tenacity, drive, commercial awareness and persuasiveness to find the right contacts, understand the client’s issues, and match and apply the benefits in your solution.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and target key organisations within a territory
  • Network within organisations to find decision makers, budget holders, influencers, etc.
  • Organise telephone demonstrations of online systems to key contacts
  • Attend meetings to present our products
  • Negotiate and close sales
  • Identify and work with consortia
  • Attend key conferences and exhibitions
  • Liaise closely with Marketing team to develop effective strategy for the territory

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • To be target orientated
  • A proven track record in sales
  • The ability to create and build relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills
  • A creative and proactive approach to selling
  • Confidence in face to face and telephone sales negotiations
  • Experience of business information sales, selling to public sector, selling to academic sector or publishing
  • Fluency in French, Spanish or Italian would be valuable but not essential
